Golden Globes
"Avatar" van de Canadese regisseur James Cameron is in de prijzen gevallen op de 67e Golden Globes. De film kreeg de prijs voor beste film en beste regisseur. De Golden Globes zijn de belangrijkste filmprijzen na de Oscars.In de musical- of komediecategorie ging de Golden Globe voor Beste Film naar de kaskraker "The Hangover".
Acteur Jeff Bridges kreeg de prijs voor beste acteur in een drama voor zijn rol in "Crazy heart". Zijn collega Sandra Bullock mocht de prijs voor beste actrice in ontvangst nemen voor haar prestatie in "The blind side. "Robert Downey Jr. en Meryl Streep wonnen dezelfde prijzen in de musical- of komediesectie voor respectievelijk Sherlock Holmes en Julie & Julia.
Michael Haneke mocht uit handen van de Italiaanse filmdiva Sophia Loren de prijs voor beste niet-Engelstalige film in handen nemen met "Das weisse Band". "Up" sleepte de Golden Globe voor beste animatiefilm in de wacht en Martin Scorsese kreeg een carrièreprijs.
